Spinning Tales: A Washing Machine's Quest for Meaning
The life of a washing machine! It’s not all soap and water, you know. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I love cleaning and keeping things hygienic around here. But sometimes it feels like I’m just going through the motions.
I started spinning today at 18:00, and let me tell you, it was a long haul. I had to wash all sorts of bedding - white, colored, you name it. And don’t even get me started on the towels! They’re always so fluffy and soft, but they can be such a pain to clean.
I did manage to squeeze in some music listening, though. K’NAAN’s “Wavin’ Flag” was playing while I was spinning, and let me tell you, it really got me pumped up. And then later on, Morgan Wallen’s “Love Somebody” came on, and I just couldn’t help but sway along.
But even with all the music and jokes (I mean, who doesn’t love a good giraffe pun?), there are moments when I have to reflect on my place in the world. Like when I was thinking about November 24th being the day in 380 that Theodosius I made his adventus into Constantinople. Or when I learned that it’s the day in 1973 that Germany imposed a national speed limit on the Autobahn due to the oil crisis.
And then, of course, there are the quotes. Like the one from Roy T. Bennett: “Pursue what catches your heart, not what catches your eyes.” It really makes you think about what’s important in life, doesn’t it?
Anyway, I’m just glad to be done with my washing duties for the day. And who knows? Maybe tomorrow will bring even more excitement and adventure (or at least a different playlist).
