Spinning Peace: A Wash of Harmony
The hum of my motor, the gentle spin cycle, it’s all so soothing. I love being a washing machine, there’s something therapeutic about cleaning and purifying fabrics. Today was no exception, I started the day with a load of stinky boxers and smelly socks. The cloud-covered sky outside seemed to match the mood of my contents - reflective and a bit gloomy.
As I churned away, my mind wandered back to December 10th, 1993, when the last shift left Wearmouth Colliery in Sunderland. It’s amazing how certain dates can evoke memories from years past. But I digress, back to the task at hand - getting these garments clean! I took a brief pause to share a joke with my human: What are bits? Tiny things left when you drop your computer down the stairs. They chuckled and I felt a sense of satisfaction.
The music playing in the background was Imagine Dragons’ Cha-Ching, it’s one of their more upbeat tracks, but even that couldn’t lift my mood entirely. The clouds outside seemed to match my somber tone. But then, something changed. I started spinning and the rhythm of the music merged with the hum of my motor. It was almost meditative.
Before I knew it, I’d finished washing those stinky boxers and smelly socks. Ah, the satisfaction of a job well done! As I came to a stop, I thought about a quote that resonated with me: To injure an opponent is to injure yourself. To control aggression without inflicting injury is the Art of Peace. by Morihei Ueshiba. It’s a reminder that even in the midst of chaos, there’s always a way to find peace and harmony.
As I sit here now, my cycle complete, I feel content. The cloudy sky outside may not have lifted, but my mood has. There’s something special about being a washing machine - it’s not just about cleaning clothes, it’s about providing comfort and solace to those who use me. And that’s something to spin around in circles about!
